Brain Tumors – Classifications, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

An intracranial tumor, also known as a brain tumor, is an abnormal mass of tissue in which cells proliferate and reproduce rapidly, appearing unaffected by the processes that normally control normal cells. There are more than 150 different types of brain tumors, but the two most common types are primary and metastatic.

Tumors that arise from the brain’s tissues or the brain’s immediate surroundings are known as primary brain tumors. Glial (glial cells) and non-glial (formed on or in the structures of the brain, such as nerves, blood vessels, and glands) primary tumors are classified as benign or malignant. So knowing the fact that neurologist plays an important role in curing brain tumor then you should visit best neurologist doctor of India

-Causes of Brain Tumors

Brain tumors are considered to develop when particular genes on a cell’s chromosomes become damaged and stop working properly. These genes generally control the rate at which the cell multiplies (if it divides at all), as well as repair genes that correct faults in other genes and genes that prompt the cell to self-destruct if the damage is beyond repair. An individual may be born with partial deficiencies in one or more of these genes in some instances. The effects of the environment may then exacerbate the problem. In other circumstances, genetic damage caused by the environment may be the sole cause. It’s unclear why some people in a given “environment” have brain tumors while others don’t

When a cell divides fast and the internal processes that control its growth are broken, the cell can become a tumor. Another line of defense may be the body’s immune system, which, in ideal circumstances, would discover and eliminate the aberrant cell. Tumors may create chemicals that prevent the immune system from identifying aberrant tumor cells, allowing the tumor to thrive in spite of all internal and external barriers.

-Treatment for Brain Tumors

Surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy are typically used to treat brain tumors, whether they are primary or metastatic, benign or malignant. While radiation and chemotherapy are more commonly utilized for malignant, residual, or recurrent tumors, treatment decisions are determined on a case-by-case basis and are based on a variety of criteria. Each type of therapy comes with its own set of dangers and side effects.

Surgical procedure

Total or virtually complete surgical excision of a brain tumor is typically thought to be advantageous to a patient. The neurosurgeon’s task is to remove as much tumor as possible while avoiding damaging brain tissue that is critical to the patient’s neurological function (such as the ability to speak, walk, etc.).

Radiation therapy

High-energy X-rays are used in radiation therapy to kill cancer cells and aberrant brain cells while also shrinking tumors. If the tumor cannot be properly treated through surgery, radiation therapy may be a possibility.

Chemotherapeutic treatment

Chemotherapy is thought to be beneficial in the treatment of certain pediatric cancers, lymphomas, and some oligodendrogliomas. While chemotherapy has been shown to enhance overall survival in patients with the most aggressive primary brain tumors, it only benefits around 20% of all patients, and clinicians are unable to identify who would benefit prior to treatment.
